Small Business Rates
Many smaller office occupiers may qualify for business rates relief, depending on the rateable value of the property and whether they occupy other premises.
Exact bills and eligibility are confirmed by Colchester City Council, but the guide below gives a practical starting point.
100% relief
If your property has a rateable value of £12,000 or less, and it is the only property your business uses, you may qualify for 100% Small Business Rate Relief.
Tapered relief
For rateable values from £12,001 to £14,999, relief reduces on a sliding scale down to 0%.
Below £51,000
If you do not qualify for full relief but your rateable value is below £51,000, your bill is normally calculated using the lower small business multiplier.
What to check
- your rateable value
- whether your business occupies only one property
- whether any additional properties are below £2,900 each and keep your total below £20,000
